McLaren v Ferrari

It’s on again!

We’re frequently treated to the spectacle of Ferrari and McLaren battling it out on tracks around the world during the F1 season, but this year it’s different, with the rare event of the two titans of automotive sport locking horns on the road again.

So who’s going to win this epic battle this time? Continue reading McLaren v Ferrari

25 Years of the F40

Just read and watched  this – Dream machine: Ferrari F40 (video below).

Dream come true for this lucky _____ (<– insert chosen expletive here). Wouldn’t we all like to be a motoring journalist? And wouldn’t we all just love to get behind the wheel of one of these?

Recently Autocar did a piece about the 458, and how Ferrari’s baby is now faster than it’s previous top of the tree model, the F40.

So just why was/is the F40 so special? And if the 458 is so much faster, is it still really that special?? Continue reading 25 Years of the F40

Another Boring Insurance Conference?

Yesterday, I had the dubious pleasure of attending the annual BIBA Conference where insurance companies apparently ply insurance brokers with information about their products.

What actually happens is you collect all sorts of stupid marketing tosh designed to promote brands, and catch up with industry gossip, whilst being plied with nice coffee, fancy pastries and sometimes even the odd beer or two. Continue reading Another Boring Insurance Conference?

Under the Mclaren MP4-12C’s Floor

Unfortunately, my rich friend is not about at the moment, (some personal issues), so I’ve still not been out in the bright, orange beast yet, but at least I managed to collar him and he’s promised me now…

He was only about for a short while, so this post will be quite brief, but with the weather being quite good, (for a change!), I thought I’d grab the opportunity to take some half decent photos of the underneath. Here you can see how the diffuser is shaped. Continue reading Under the Mclaren MP4-12C’s Floor

Ferrari’s new Hybrid System

As you can probably guess, I’m not the greenest of people, but I do think electric hybrids are definitely the way to go, providing both power and economy when you need it.

First, a little aside: With my old V6, the fuel economy was shocking. I barely got 27 mpg if I drove like an old fart, but with an onboard computer giving fuel economy readouts, I noticed some very interesting things. I know it’s obvious that acceleration uses more energy and therefore fuel but quite how much I didn’t realise, and then there’s also the efficiency of the engine over the rev range. The New McLaren

mclaren MP4-12C from the frontSometimes it’s quite nice when you have a friend who’s rich. This is his new car, and being the generous sort, he’s going to take me out for a spin in it shortly 🙂

I remember when the Mclaren F1 first made an appearance. I went to see it at the Motor Show in Birmingham. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed that near it, never mind to sit in it, but then at a cool £500,000 (in 1991!) I don’t suppose I’d want  thousands of people putting their grubby mitts all over my brand new sports car either!

I also have a .pdf copy of the MP4-12C brochure, which you can download here. Continue reading The New McLaren
